We are now recruiting for the exciting role of Senior Chemistry Engineer, to be involved in industry leading, cutting-edge design project for a new type of power station.  
The successful chemistry engineer will sit within the materials and chemistry team and principally be responsible for the delivery of technical justifications underpinning the RR SMR chemistry E3S (Environment, Safety, Security, Safeguards) case. The role requires a close working relationship with other teams within the engineering directorate as part of Integrated Project Teams. The materials and chemistry team supports the full-lifecycle of the power plant from conceptual design through to decommissioning, including providing support to manufacturing and development engineering, and the supply chain. Therefore, the role will include responsibilities within the wide and varied tasks the team need to achieve. Due to the wide scope and range of activities undertaken by the materials team, the specific accountabilities of the role can be catered towards the successful candidate based on experience or interest.

  • Development, delivery and issue of technical justifications to underpin the RR SMR chemistry regime.

  • Support Integrated Project Teams (IPTs) – predominantly systems design and development engineering

  • Integrate and own the plan to ensure delivery to cost, quality and schedule

  • Stakeholder engagement both internally to RR SMR and external as necessary

  • Being embedded in the materials and chemistry team to drive delivery of wide and varied design support tasks

Key Selection Criteria
Criteria 1 – Chemistry Principles -  The ability to understand and apply knowledge of the fundamental principles of chemistry to the definition of technical strategy and solution of technical problems throughout the product life cycle. Includes fundamentals of properties of matter, and, as appropriate, inorganic, organic and physical chemistry
Criteria 2 – Applied Chemistry - The ability to interpret and assess chemistry data within the context of all aspects of the product lifecycle. Includes the ability to interpret and predict chemistry excursions, trends and anomalies. Includes the impact of chemical changes on product operability and safety.
Criteria 3 – Experience in the Nuclear Industry – We are seeking candidates preferably with a background in the nuclear industry or a highly regulated industry, ideally with experience in:

Pressurised Water Reactor (PWR) plant design and behaviour.
Environmental, Safety, Security and Safeguarding (E3S) regulations and principles (including application of As Low As Reasonably Practicable (ALARP) and Best Available Technique (BAT) principals).

Criteria 4 – Technical Writing - The ability to produce studies, specifications, scopes, basis of design, engineering schedules, design method statements, philosophies, and technical reports.?
Criteria 5 – Collaboration Skills - A proactive, positive attitude, with the desire and ability to learn fast, challenge conventional thinking and make a difference.

Pay and Benefits
We anticipate a paying salary of between £51,000 & £65,000 negotiable dependant on experience, a performance related bonus of up to 12.5%, an attractive pension scheme with 12% employer and 6% employee contributions. You will also receive a flexible benefits allowance of £2,200, enabling you to create a bespoke package to suit your needs.
