The Rolls-Royce SMR Test Programme is accountable for delivering a suite of test rigs to validate fluid models used to design the Rolls-Royce SMR power station. Working with a team under the technical supervision of a Design Lead, the Test Rig Design Engineer will help develop the design of thermal-hydraulic or mechanical test rigs to time and cost. We will consider applicants from a range of engineering disciplines, including mechanical, chemical and EC&I, providing they can demonstrate an ability to apply their skills to fluid system designs.

We are now recruiting for a Test Rig Design Engineer to be involved in delivering an industry leading, cutting-edge design project for a new type of nuclear power station.  

 

What we’re looking for

You will be delivering engineering outputs through a series of gated reviews, requiring the use of systems engineering techniques to develop robust solutions that meet the project requirements. The role demands effective engagement with internal and external stakeholders, from preliminary concept stages through to detail design and implementation with external testing facilities.

To do this you will:

  • Apply system-design and engineering techniques to help develop test rigs from preliminary concept through to detail design.
  • Produce design documents, including calculations, PI&Ds, system descriptions and operating philosophies, and develop engineering assessments to specify unit operations for the assigned test rig.
  • Use relevant internal and external guidance material and standards to ensure deliverables conform to relevant best practice and are safe by design, including contributing to HAZOP and FMECA activities.
  • Work collaboratively and proactively with multi-discipline teams, including power station design teams, suppliers and external test houses, to ensure the test rig design is optimised against design requirements and verification strategies.
  • Manage and plan own time to ensure delivery to cost, quality and schedule.
  • Manage and escalate technical and programme risks to the Test Rig Lead Engineer as appropriate.
  • Act as a technical representative for assigned test rigs at technical and project reviews.

Qualification

  • Degree-level or equivalent qualifications in Engineering, Physical Sciences, Mathematics, or a related discipline.
  • Professional recognition through an appropriate professional body or be working towards it.

Please note: Previous experience of test rigs or nuclear systems are desirable but not necessary for this role.

 

Pay and Benefits

In addition to the salary, there is also a performance related bonus of up to 12.5%, and an attractive pension scheme with 12% employer and 6% employee contributions. You will also receive a flexible benefits allowance of £2,200, enabling you to create a bespoke package to suit your needs.
