The role of Electrical Design Manager reports to the Chief Design Engineer - EC&I. As an Electrical Design expert, the successful applicant will develop and manage the Electrical Design teams to deliver all aspects of the Electrical design programme for the power station design development. This covers the delivery of the complete design of the Electrical systems, spanning system architecture, sub-system design and equipment specification and design / selection to realise the final verified design of the power station. They will do this by working closely with the engineering teams from across the power station (e.g. design teams, human factors, safety, security, V&V etc) and applying a structured systems engineering approach to design.
The role will cover technical design and programme management and team line management for the Electrical design organisation.

About The Position
- Systems Engineering development for the power station Electrical Design areas including identification of interfaces using MBSE tools and robust management of requirements, evidence, definition and verification activities
- Development and management of a team appropriate to fulfil the scope of work
- Setting of goals and targets for team members
- SQEPing of team and identification of training needs to maintain SQEP
- Schedule updates, change management and reporting
- Intelligent customer for external design packages to include specification and oversight of activities
- Definition and application of codes and standards and compliance with relevant legislation
- Development of modular design solutions to support build certainty targets
- Management of the Interface with grid connection and related external interfaces to the power station
- Technical governance accountability for the Electrical design area
Qualifications & Experience
- Degree level qualifications in Electrical Engineering or similar, or possess equivalent qualifications
- Previous experience within the nuclear industry is preferable

Pay and Benefits
A highly competitive salary is on offer along with a performance related bonus.
A range of flexible benefits are available to choose from, enabling you to create a bespoke package to suit your needs.
The location of work can be either Derby or Warrington. (May consider other areas)
Flexible working / hybrid and remote working patterns are available with agreement.
Working hours are 37.5 hrs per week with some additional hours as and when required.
Who We Are
Rolls-Royce SMR’s small modular reactor (SMR) programme is the first of its kind in the UK.
A Rolls-Royce SMR power station will have the capacity to generate 470mw of low-carbon energy, equivalent to more than 150 onshore wind turbines. It will provide consistent baseload generation for at least 60 years, helping achieve the Government’s target of 24GW of nuclear energy by 2050.
In addition to stable base load power, Rolls-Royce SMRs will be able to provide energy for the manufacture of green hydrogen and synthetic fuels, to support the path to Net Zero and the decarbonisation of transport.
Out technology is based upon well-established Pressurised Water Reactor (PWR) technology, in use all over the world, but Rolls-Royce SMR’s unique approach will see the reactor components built in factory conditions and assembled on site.
Our factory-built model is entirely scalable, as demand increases, we invest in further factories using the same design and management systems used for all our SMRs.
When fully operational the Rolls-Royce SMR programme is forecast to create 40,000 regional UK jobs by 2050 and generate £52bn in economic benefit.
