Rolls-Royce SMR, the UK’s domestic nuclear energy champion, and is looking for a Physical Protection Systems Lead (GDA). Whereby you will be working as a critical team member within Security Group.

Rolls-Royce SMR is a start-up joint special purpose vehicle (SPV) business, specifically created to design, construct, and deliver a new fleet of Small Modular Reactors power plants that will be a critical and strategic player in the race to Net Zero carbon emissions globally. Spun out of Rolls-Royce with its pedigree in engineering excellence but also attracting world class inward investment this is an exciting new business with an optimistic opportunity to be a global player in the coming years.

The Post
You will be working as a critical team member within Security Group, directly supporting both the architect and engineering design functions to deliver a physically secure solution to future licensees of the Rolls Royce Small Modular Reactor (RR-SMR). In addition, a crucial outcome of this work will see you working closely with all components of the Security, Safety, Safeguards, and Environmental (E3S) functions within the Generic Design Assessment (GDA) team. Specifically, this post will augment the capability of the Security Case Lead alongside the Cyber Protection Systems delivery Lead producing the Claims, Arguments, and Evidence that will form part of the Generic Security Report component of GDA.

Key Responsibilities
• A Technical Lead for the physical security solution, you will be a Subject Matter Expert, employed into a team to deliver an optimised security solution for our new SMR design.
• Support and utilise Vital Area Identification to inform security solutions.
• Synthetisation of the UK Design Basis Threat to create applicable adversarial landscape and pathways to support creation of Arguments and Evidence to enable the formation of security solutions.
• Actively collaborate with the architect and engineering communities to ensure Secure-by-Design is an active component of the design process.
• Use your thorough knowledge of physical security codes and standards to advise on security specifications and give specialist advice to the range of solution approaches.
• Support requests from the Security Case Lead and the Lead Security Systems Architect to fulfil identified requirements in the GSR scope of work which meet the Office for Nuclear Regulation’s SyAPs.
• Closely collaborate and understand the wider Nuclear E3S activities, to ensure Claims, Augments, and Evidence across these disciples are inclusive of and/or aligned to physical security requirements.
• Lead and mentor a Physical Security Specialist who will support you across the numerous stakeholder functions.

The Person
• A systems thinker who can analyse and synthesise proposed architectural, engineering, and operational, process, structures, systems, and components to identify vulnerabilities.
• A confident and pro-active collaborator within an identified stakeholder landscape.
• Have an iterative mindset that seeks to understand first, to then enable creation, modification, evolution, and adaptation of security effects and outcomes.
• Familiar with analysis, synthesis, and mapping of dependencies, interdependencies, assumptions, and multiple line effects and consequences in security solution creation and integration.
• Have an applied knowledge of Secure-by-Design, Defence-in-Depth, and a Graded Approach to security.
• Inclined to an inquisitive approach to identification of new or emergent stakeholders who hold practical and active influence.
• Understands ONR security Regulatory requirements (SyAPs) & Nuclear Industry Security Regulation (NISR) 2003
• Demonstratable capability of the implementation of Nuclear Physical Security Solution programmes.
• Demonstratable understanding of the principles behind secure-by-design and the graded approach.
• Demonstratable understanding of Threat analysis and creation of adversarial pathways
• Demonstratable understanding of the protection of Sensitive Nuclear Information, commercially sensitive and Intellectual Property.
• Knowledge of CPNI material and resources.
• Demonstrable understanding of verbal and written report delivery

Qualifications & Experience

Qualifications
• Degree or equivalent recognised experience that represent the core subjects regarding security risk, physical security, and security solution creation.
• A Globally recognised security certification or willing to work toward WINS nuclear security professional certification or CSMP.
• Additional knowledge or qualifications in one, or all, of the following areas is desirable:
? Blast protection/engineering.
? Crime Prevention through Environmental Design.
? CPNI security training packages.
Experience
• Experience and understanding of the application of the ONR SyAps to support nuclear security solution design.
• 5 years minimum experience in the delivery of physical security solutions in a nuclear environment.
• Exceptional knowledge of the practice and principles of requirements identification, analysis, and synthesis, to create substantiation of security claims, arguments, and evidence.
• Experienced engaging directly with UK Government regulators and leading the conversation.
• Working Knowledge of the practice and principles of project management.
• Experience as a proactive collaborator with stakeholders and a skilled in identifying new or emergent stakeholders.
