The Post
Reporting to the Safety Analysis and Methods Lead, as the Probabilistic Safety Assessment (PSA) Lead you will play a key role in supporting the development of the UK SMR Power Station and the successful completion of the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) and the Environment Agency (EA) Generic Design Assessment (GDA) process.

Key Responsibilities
• Own, develop and maintain the PSA delivery programme as part of the overall GDA delivery programme.
• Line manage and develop a team of direct reports capable of developing PSA submissions as required for the GDA encompassing the PSA practitioners.
• Providing support to engineering disciplines in their decision making process enabling them to use PSA as an input to choose between different design options that are under consideration.
• Ensuring that the appropriate level of quality and governance is applied to PSA submissions.
• Acting as a PSA Technical Authority and be able to represent the project at appropriate internal technical and project reviews and at external meetings with the regulator and other stakeholders.
• Keeping up to date with developments in the nuclear industry and the work of the appropriate external industry groups in the UK and worldwide.
• To work with the GDA PMO to plan and manage PSA work to meet technical, budget and SMR programme requirements.
Required Competencies
• In-depth knowledge of the development and application of PSA to nuclear facilities, preferably to a complex facility such as an operating Nuclear Power Plant (includes Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3 PSA)
• Experience in the use of PSA to support the design of a NPP (risk informed design
• Experience in PSA techniques such as development and application of fault trees, event trees, reliability data analysis, internal and external hazards
• Familiarity with PSA software analysis tools, particularly Risk Spectrum
• Experience of working closely with engineering teams to develop an integrated engineering and safety solution.
Qualifications & Experience
• Qualified to degree level or equivalent in Engineering, Maths, Physics or equivalent or significant relevant industry experience.
• Chartered or working towards Chartered status with a professional engineering, or equivalent, body.
